Katrina Genocide & What Makes Life Worth Living
Elephant & Child Feb.'06
I"m just taking a break from painting. I'm doing a lot of overlays, so I put one down for a day or two and take up another one. These are abstracts and about the most fun I can have painting. How can I jump from this to genocide in New Orleans and Africa? I had wanted to mention I believe at least part of W's and his crew's reason for allowing basically genocide in New Orleans was to "cleanse" the city of black people. And that's why they don't care about what's happening in Africa besides the fact that there's nothing to steal. Atlantic City better watch out; if there's ever a terrible flood there under W's watch, I think he'll let the whole place float into the sea and then rebuild the casinos. In Europe what he did is called "Ethnic Cleansing", but over here it's just called negligence, or a mix-up. what will history--if W doesn't hijack that too--say about him and his administration? I just put up the elephant & child which felt right because I was talking about Republicans doing irreparable damage to people, including children,
I didn't listen to the TV news tonight and I breezed through the newspapers today and didn't finish. It was a busy day but I didn't do anything special. We went out to a mediocre breakfast, looked for the ranch houses in Glenside and didn't find them, and went shopping. When we got home, I fed Blackie, the dog at the corner and painted. Blackie, who looks ugly and scary, is just a sweet-tempered untrained dog. He's outside most every day being friendly with everyone who passes by. He's part Rottweiler and Black Lab I think. Today, he was turning and twisting every which way so I could rub his neck and he could lick my face. He expects treats from me everyday which I can't live up to but I try. I missed my Sammy eating all the leftovers and I've very quickly converted Blackie to a waffle-eating pup. And Autumn now tastes all my food; she believes it's her right and I'm so old, I don't care. It's fine. She tasted cole slaw, eggs, checks out seltzer; you name it she tastes it. Life just zooms by but being with my family, our animals, and living my life makes it okay.

Jayne, I agree with your "W" comments! You know I find that if I don't watch the news or read newspapers, I'm happy! The weight of injustice and the cruelty of the priviledged wears me down! I spent a day sleepy, but arose that late evening to journal and sketch. I try to do a little sketch daily, even if I don't get to paint. I finally realize that if I don't paint, I make everyone and everything around me suffer! But, if I'm emotionally exhausted from dealing with people, I can't paint and there goes the vicious cycle of being with people or painting, because doing both wears me out! I do enjoy observing people from afar, reading and traveling. I miss you and enjoy reading your blog, since it feels like you and I are on the same plane most of the time. Hugs to you and Harry!
Let me know when we're not on the same plain (Plane?). You're my friend; if you don't tell me when I'm wrong, nobody will.
I'm glad you're drawing; I know about the frustration; I feel it too when I don't paint or draw. Lately, with no bathtub including the shower, I really have no time because I"m always running around to take a shower. Today it's my mother in law's. He promises by Monday we can use it.
Can you tell me about Upland, Oxford Upper and Lower Chichester etc.? They're kind of out your way but I bet you won't know because they're not towns "next door". I talked to a woman I know about houses in Abington--all over the area including Glenside and Roslyn--and down by Delaware. That's where those towns are. I had noticed I could get a lot more down that way, but of course we'd be in Timbuktu. I'd rather be up in the Abington area but the houses are very expensive and a lot of them aren't modernized. This house will look terrific and I don't want to move to a shack.
What did you think of Cheney? Aren't he and Rumsfeld the evil twosome? It's like we have the Anti-Christ's legion running the country. I was just reading about Lincoln (in Sarah Vowell's book) and I got to the part where the Republicans handed back the South to the old slave owners. I really understand why lots of people, especially minorities, don't vote. Who's there to vote for? Well, okay, times are a little different but in Louisiana they're not. You know I just thought of the mayor there. He's like the guys in Africa who squirrel away millions of dollars while the population is starving. I think he sold out a long time ago even though he talked up when people were dying on the rooftops. But did he do anything beforehand to get them out? And what's he doing now? The Caucasian legislators and hangers on down there out to be put in jail.
I guess I"ll put clothes on before KeyKay comes. I have no idea how he got that name. He's Columbian, not Asian and he's doing a lovely job. He's Honey's friend.
Let me know if I'm going overboard.
Love,
Jaynee
